V-Drive Pylon Installation Instructions
FAILURE TO ADHERE TO ALL WARNINGS COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT OR VEHICLE, PERSONAL INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND ALWAYS STAY CLEAR OF BRIDGES, OVERHANGING TREES, LOW HANGING POWER LINES AND ANY OTHER OBSTACLES • DO NOT TOW THE BOAT WITH THE V-DRIVE PYLON INSTALLED • DO NOT USE TO PULL KITES, PARA SAILORS OR STRANDED BOATS • BE SURE TO CHECK ALL HARDWARE, CLAMPS AND CABLES FOR WEAR AND PROPER INSTALLATION PRIOR TO EACH USE • THERE MUST ALWAYS BE A LOAD ON BOTH SAFETY CABLES TO ENSURE THE PYLON IS RIGID • MAKE SURE THE FACTORY INSTALLED PYLON IS IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THIS PRODUCT
THE USE OF THIS PRODUCT INVOLVES INHERENT RISKS OF INJURY OR DEATH. TO REDUCE THESE RISKS THE INDIVIDUAL MUST ALWAYS STAY WITHIN THEIR LIMITS AND AT SPEEDS THAT DO NOT EXCEED THEIR LEVEL OF SKILL. THIS PRODUCT ALLOWS WAKEBOARDERS TO ATTAIN MORE HEIGHT AND IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT EACH USER TAKES A SLOW APPROACH TO THE WAKE UNTIL THEY FULLY ADJUST TO THE DIFFERENCE IN FEEL AND HOW THE PYLON WORKS.
1- Read through all directions and warnings completely before installing this product.
2- Slide the pylon body over the factory installed pylon.
NOTE- The factory installed pylon must extend at least 6 inches above the sun deck
3- Place the outer brace arms into the thru clevis on the pylon and pin with the 1/4” x 1” clevis hitch pins.
4- Now insert each inner portion of the telescoping brace arms into an outer portion. Position them to the back of the boat at 45˚- 50˚ off the boat’s center-line from the main pylon (Figure 1). The total angle of left and right braces should be somewhere between 90˚-100˚.
5- PRIOR TO DRILLING: Check to make sure that there aren’t any obstructions such as cables or wires. Mark your spots on the boat deck to drill holes for the deck clevises (1). Ensure marked area can be reached from below for the installation of the flat washer (3), lock washer (4) and nut (5).
6- Remove the braces from the deck and drill 5/8” holes through the marks you made in step 5. Using clevis washers (2), insert the deck clevises (1) through the holes you just drilled. Now use the flat washer (3), lock washer (4) and nut (5) to secure each clevis (tighten firmly).
NOTE- If the deck is not at least 1/2” thick at the mounting points, you must add a piece of marine plywood or similar item to the underside of the deck to distribute the load / add strength.
7- With the support braces attached to the pylon, connect the other ends to the appropriate deck clevis.
8- Go to the bow of the boat. Pull the sling through the boat’s trailer eye hook with equal lengths on either side of the bow. Wrap the sling up and around the bow and rest it in place.
9- Clip the carabineer at the end of the guy cable assembly through both ends of the sling. Be sure the cables are not twisted prior to doing this.
10- Open the handle on the over-center buckle. Pull any slack out of the top cable and adjust it so the loop at the end is approximately 1½” - 2” in diameter (Figure 2). When the cable is snug, tighten the set screws for this cable with the provided allen wrench. Make sure you tighten them until they are extremely tight.
11- Close the handle on the over-center buckle which will load tension onto the pylon, pulling it slightly forward and making it rigid.
12- Pull the slack out of the bottom cable so it is snug. Make sure the cable loop is approximately 1½” - 2” in diameter (Figure 2). Tighten the set screws for this cable with the provided allen wrench. Be sure you tighten them until they are extremely tight. Both cables should now have approximately the same amount of tension.
NOTE- This pylon gets most of its support from the cables.
13- Slide the cable pad over the cables and cable clamp, tuck any excess cable into the pad.
NOTE- It’s a good idea to place an old towel below the brace when you are drilling. This will help clean up any metal shavings after installation of the pylon.
WARNING- ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN DRILLING
14- Back to the braces. Use the outer brace pilot holes to drill a 1/4” hole through each inner brace. Disconnect the braces from the boat. Bolt each brace through the drilled holes using 1/4” x 1¼” bolt and nylon nut (6,7). Reconnect the braces to the boat.
